YOU MAKE ME COMPLETE ( Victorian Jewelry Sterling Silver Buckle Bracelet ): Oh, how the Victorian’s loved “message” jewelry. This fine English Sterling Silver strap and buckle bracelet sent the message “we go together” or “you make me complete”. Silver jewelry regained favor in the waning years of the 19th Century and these pieces of message jewelry were all the rage. (c. 1880-90) The applied strap and buckle motif is engraved with a floral/foliate design. Sterling beads are applied around both the buckle and the strap. The back of the bracelet is smooth. There is a rolled edge for comfortable wear and because of the slightly oval shape, it stays in place on your wrist. The side opening V-spring and box clasp are tight and secure. The multiple British assay marks on the inside (the “lion passant” is the symbol for Sterling Silver, the “anchor” the assay mark for Birmingham) confirm the desirability of this piece. A bracelet like this one is pictured in “Warman’s Jewelry”, 2nd Edition, Page 62. My wrist (over the bone) is 6 1/2” and this fits me perfectly. It would fit a slightly larger wrist as well. This beautifully crafted bracelet, with its enduring appeal, is as wearable today as it was over a century ago. Condition: Excellent. A few antique scratches. This bracelet was worn by its owner. Size: 1 1/4” wide, 7 1/7” inner circumference.
