SCOTTISH HIGHLAND’S MIST ( Victorian Scottish Jewelry Agate Cross Pendant ): Crosses continue to be of interest in all styles of Victorian jewelry. This Sterling and Montrose gray lace Antique Agate Cross pendant is an example of Scottish jewelry at its finest. (c. 1880) Jeweler tested Sterling Silver with its original fitted wide bale, this cross is set with beautifully shaped and patterned lace agates. A cabochon of lace agate is set at the center, flanked by three pyramid shapes and flat panels elsewhere. The color of this agate is gray but tinged with that touch of blue that makes it so striking, yet subtle. (Montrose Agate has been mined out and is now only found it these antique pieces.) Scottish crosses and earrings are much scarcer than pins. The entire piece is hand engraved with a geometric design. Probably made in England using Scottish stones. A superb and exquisite piece of history. Condition: Excellent. No cracks or loss. Silver is unmarked, but tested to be Sterling. Size: With bale 3 1/8” long, 1 3/4” wide. Sterling setting is 1/8” deep.
