THE PASSION OF DEEP RED ( Victorian Jewelry Garnet Earrings ): Some believe that garnets empower the wearer with truth, constancy and faith. To me the rich deep red wine color of glittering garnets suggests a passion for the past. Red velvet, red roses and red wine all blend together sensuously in these Victorian Garnet Earrings (c. 1860-1880), bringing to mind the lush look of “The Phantom of the Opera”. The large free swinging drop in the middle is a cabochon garnet with a circular cut out in the back to guarantee that the light flashes brightly through the stone. The teardrop surround and the floral cluster at the top of the ear wire are set with faceted pyrope garnets, often referred to as “Bohemian” garnets. The rose gold setting complements the color of the garnets beautifully. The ear wires are lever backs and they are continental in origin. When worn, these flashing garnet earrings dance next to your face, bringing all of the romance of the past alive. Condition: Excellent. Size: 2” long, 3/4” wide. Center teardrop is 5/8” long.
