HIGHLAND HEART ( Edwardian Jewelry Antique Scottish Agate Heart Brooch ): Heart shaped jewels have been popular since the fourteenth century. These crowned "Luckenbooth" brooches were given as love tokens and a protection against evil spirits since the early 1700ís in Scotland. They were named "Luckenbooth" because they were sold in locked booths around St. Gileís Kirk, Edinburgh. This brooch dates from the early 20th century and is marked "Iona, Sterling" and "Scotland" below a small makerís mark. It features a particularly lovely bezel set piece of carnelian colored bevel edged banded agate. The original pin back has a secure safety clasp. Both romantic and classically lovely, this brooch will make your heart beat faster. Condition: Excellent. The agate is flawless and the patina on the crown and setting is very rich. Size: 2 1/8" high, 1 1/2" wide.
