Victorian Jewelry: VJ040

PROTECTIVE POWERS ( Victorian Coral Jewelry Earrings ): These lovely Victorian teardrop earrings are enhanced by bars and balls of coral. Victorians prized coral for its reputed curative and protective powers. Infants were given toy rattles with a piece of coral to teeth on. The earrings are Victorian hollow ware with a gold wash. They feature engraved design work surrounding the coral bars and claw set ball tops with kidney wire fastenings. Made in the mid-Victorian period c. 1860 - 1880. Condition: Very good. There are a few scratches on the front and a tiny dent on the back of one, but these flaws are not visible to the naked eye as they dangle from your ears. Pendant drop is 1 1/4" long, 5/8" wide. From ball at top to bottom of drop 1 5/8". A nice match with VJ039 Gold & Coral Pin.
