Pug Figurines: PP89 A & B

FAUX ANTIQUE BEFLOWERED PUG PAIR ( Oriental Porcelain Pug Dog Book Ends ): These beautifully hand painted faux antique pugs are decorator pieces any pug collector would be proud to own. My knowledge of true Chinese and Japanese antique pugs is limited. I have handled only a few - seen on these sales pages or in my Pug Museum. I know the Chinese, ancestral home of our present pugs close to 2 millennia ago (Han and Tang Dynasty, around 150 BC), were famed for both their porcelain and their delicate floral decorations. I have tried to show a sample of the decorations in a close-up photo - flowers, birds, vines & leaves. The pugs have a blue-gray appearance in general due to tiny blue dots on a gray background. You can also see the faux-crazing that covers both pugs and platforms to add to the antique appearance. They are seated on very heavy plinths – on top green & blue cushions with decorative gold scrolling and sides of a subtle chartreuse color with gold bases. Hallmarked “Mark Roberts”, “Made in China”. Age: Relatively new. Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks or repairs. Rubber pads on bottom to prevent scratching. Weight: 2 1/3 lbs each, 4 2/3 lbs total. Size: Total height 7 ½”. Pugs 5 ½” high, 4 ½” long. Base 5 ¼” long, 4” wide, 1 ¾” high. Cushion ¼” deep.
