CLASSIC ANTIQUE PUG ( Victorian German Porcelain Pug Dog ): This is a  classic 19th Century German male porcelain pug dog.  He has the cropped ears of the typical old German pugs and the collar adorned with large golden bells found on the well-dressed 18th & 19th century pug. Though he is unmarked, the great majority of this style pug were made by Conta & Boehme, a German Porcelain Manufactory famous in the latter half of the 19th century. They made the wonderful Victorian Porcelain Fairing Pieces for English fairs. Their pugs were made primarily for export, as were Meissen & Dresden Pugs. Condition: Excellent for his age. Much of the gold paint is worn off of bells almost always the case in pugs from this era. Small firing defect seen just above left haunch. Many of these old porcelain pugs have broken or repaired tails or bells or collar bows - but this one is fully intact. Size: 4 5/8 high, 5 1/4 long.
