SMALL MEISSEN BOY WITH BELLS ( Meissen Porcelain Pug Dog ): For those of you who thought you could never afford a Meissen Pug, this small charming male pug is for you. His value is enhanced by the 5 golden Victorian Bells he sports on his light blue collar – a feature that increases his rarity and his value. Meissen was the first company in Europe to produce fine hard paste porcelain (1710) and pugs have been among their favored figurines since the 1700’s. Most Meissen pugs you’ll see, including this one, have been made in the 20th Century, but using molds from the 18th & 19th Centuries. This little fellow was probably made before 1974, when a 5 digit model system was started. The quality of the porcelain, the molding and the decorating has been maintained for 3 Centuries. He has the famous Meissen Crossed Swords Hallmark on his belly, along with the number “2604”. Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks or repairs. Size: 1 3/8” high, 1 1/2” long.
