COME VISIT KILLARNEY ( Antique Porcelain Pug Dog Travel Souvenirs ): This is a wonderful matching pair of white porcelain pugs from the Edwardian era (early 1900’s). They are travel souvenirs for Killarney, Ireland, with “From Killarney” written in script on each pug. Impressed in the back of each base is “3960 Germany”. Germany made many of the porcelain travel souvenirs and fairing pieces for the U.K. in the Victorian and Edwardian eras because Germany made them better and less expensively. This pair of pugs are decorated with light blue collars and blue bows on the light tan baskets. The puppy pugs are painted gold. The moms have hand decorated faces and are seated on burnt orange bases. They are posed to display. These pugs were reproduced in the 1980’s by Fitz and Floyd – a tribute to their popularity. The “repros” are easy to differentiate from the antique – they have darker brown baskets and the pups are white. Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks or repairs. Some of the gilding has worn off the puppies – almost always the case with gilt from that era. Size: Pugs 5 1/4” high, 4” long and 2 1/2” deep. Base 4 1/4” long, 1 7/8” wide and 1/2” high. Total height 5 3/4”.
