BLOSSOMS IN MINIATURE ( Native American Navajo Indian Squash Blossom Necklace ): When Navajo silversmiths combined the silver beads, squash blossoms and naja in a necklace form around 1885, a tradition was born. This special vintage necklace was made to be worn by a child - a charming classic design in miniature. (c. 1970) The silver beads are handmade, the 12 blossoms (derived from the European pomegranate blossom) were called “squash blossoms” by the Navajo, who were familiar with the squash plants in their garden. the small crescent-shaped “naja” design was used by the Spanish as the central pendant on their horse bridles and was adopted by native silversmiths as a part of their necklace design. The sand cast naja is embellished with a turquoise stone. The entire necklace is strung on a chain with a hook and eye closure. What a wonderful surprise for a petite lady or youngster. (You can use an extender to make it hang lower if you wish.) The naja is marked “H”.

Condition: Excellent.
Size: Total length 20”. Naja 1 3/4” high, 1 3/4” wide. Blossoms 3/4” long.
