TEARS OF ENDURING APPEAL ( Victorian Mourning Jewelry Hardstone Cameo  Brooch ): From my personal collection, I offer this unusual and beautifully crafted Victorian Mourning Brooch. Purchased in New Orleans from a family estate, I couldn’t resist the blend of materials used to create this petite memorial. The decorative frame is 10KT gold with black enamel highlighting the age old message “In Memory Of”. On top of the enamel sits a circlet of tiny pearls surrounding a hand carved bezel set Hardstone Cameo of a Forget-Me-Not. The pearls, symbolizing tears, lend such a poignant and personal touch to the feminine hardstone cameo floral tribute. A three tiered dimensional brooch of enduring appeal. On the back the original C clasp closure is joined by a seemingly later addition of a ring for a safety chain. Sweetly feminine, this dainty Antique Mourning Brooch exhibits the timeless appeal that makes refined and tasteful jewelry as wearable today as it was over a century ago. Condition: Excellent. A few scratches on the back made by people testing for gold. Tiny fleabites to the white hardstone border, but since there are no chips to the edge of the hardstone, I believe that these marks may well be original in the delicate carving. They are not visible to the naked eye. The velvet box is not included. Size: 1 3/8” high, 1 1/8” wide, 3/8” deep.
