PLUMES OF PASSING ( Victorian Mourning Jewelry Swivel Brooch ): Grand in size, glorious in execution, this Victorian revolving (or swivel) brooch is simply stunning. (c. 1850 - 1860) Extremely desirable to collectors, this example of palatte-worked "Prince of Wales" feathers on milk glass is perfection. The seven hair plumes are a light brown in color. When you revolve the central plaque, the reverse side reveals a hand-colored tintype of a very dramatic gentleman. The elaborate gold-filled broken branch and ivy leaf setting elegantly conveys the symbols of separation by death and wedded love. The original C clasp and elongated pin stem are still in place, as well as the ring for a safety chain attachment. The beauty and harmony of this brooch declares that you are a serious and knowledgeable collector of fine Victorian jewelry. Condition: Excellent. It carries 150 years of loving history with it. There is a bit of solder on the pin hinge that does not show from the front. Size: 2 5/8" high, 2 1/4" wide, 3/8" deep.
