Mourning Jewelry: MJ008

MEMENTO OF A LOST LOVE ( Victorian Mourning Jewelry Brooch ): Classical simplicity of style distinguishes this early Victorian Mourning Brooch c. 1840 -1860. The clean lines of the gold filled oval case are embellished by the black enamel background with the block lettered "In Memory Of" around the edge. But the most desirable feature of this brooch is the extremely rare platinum blonde hair so beautifully palette-worked in a basket weave pattern under beveled glass in the center. Every part of the brooch is original, including the C clasp closure. Condition: Excellent. The enamel is perfect. Those are photo reflections at both sides. A tiny bit of wear to the back visible only under magnification. Oval shaped - 1 5/8" wide, 1 1/4" high.
