NECTAR FOR THE GODS II( Antique Victorian Shell Cameo Portrait ): I love large jewelry but this is too large a cameo for even me to wear. It is a very rare Victorian Cameo Portrait hand carved on a large shell. (c. 1860-80) It features Hebe, goddess of youth, and the personification of eternal beauty. The daughter of Zeus and Hera, her role was cup-bearer to the gods. Here she is pictured with a pitcher serving nectar to Zeus who is drinking from a bowl. Zeus is shown in the guise of an eagle holding flames in one claw. Hebe's Grecian gown swirls around her and she is seated on clouds. This cameo has very find hand carving – note the feathers on the eagle – undoubtedly Italian in origin. It is set in a silver plated picture frame which has both a ring to hang on the wall and a wire twist stand to set on a shelf or table. A collectors dream!

Condition: Cameo Excellent. A few striations visible on trans-illumination, but not visible on viewing from front. Silver plate shows some wear.
Size: Very large. 4" high, 3 3/4" wide, curved shell is 1/4" to 1/2" deep.
