A CELEBRATION OF WEDDED LOVE AND FIDELITY ( Victorian Shell Cameo Brooch / Pendant ): An unusual and attractive late Victorian carved shell Cameo (c. 1880 - 1900), this regal lady may be the goddess Hera / Juno. In Greek mythology Hera was Zeusís wife and sister. (Donít ask!) The finely carved hair and knotted draperies swirl across the shell with a sensuous grace. Her hair and scepter are entwined with ivy leaves - the floral tribute to wedded love and marital fidelity. Hera was the protector of marriage and was venerated in every home. This versatile Cameo is set in a simple 14 KT bezel with the addition of a replacement safety clasp and a swivel pendant holder. It is especially attractive as a pendant on a short chain or neckwire. Strong, but feminine, this Cameo would be a meaningful gift for a wife or mother. Condition: Excellent. Sharp and crisp. No cracks or wear. Size: 2" high, 1 1/2" wide.
